About Us
We are David and Kendal Walters. We are from Alabama but have enjoyed life in Hawaii for over 9 years combined. David is an active duty Army officer that has served in a variety of positions and commands since arriving in Hawaii. Kendal raises our two children, Rhett (5) and Lake (3), and has a long history of showing and competing in animal related activities such as 4-H Cattle Showing, livestock judging and holding positions in local and state FFA office. We have always had dogs and always enjoyed them being part of our everyday family life. It was not until our move to Hawaii that we began to discover the sport of dog showing and the vast array of activities available to purebred dog fanciers. We are water lovers from swimming, jet skiing, fishing or just enjoying a day at the beach, water is one of the things that brought us together as a couple and something we share with our children still today.
Through much research and deciding what characteristics we desired in a dog after the death of our much loved Chihuahua, Gracie, we decided that a non-shedding, larger dog would be a good fit for our family. From there, we studied the histories of various dog breeds, visited club websites, met dogs of breeds of interest and learned what we could about multiple breeds before deciding that the Portuguese Water Dog would be a good fit. Then, through talking with many breeders and yet more research we decided this was the breed for us(at least we

hoped). Unfortunately, there were none actively being bred in Hawaii. It was not long after this that a Standard Poodle litter was born and a beautiful black girl was selected for us as a possible show puppy. It was then that we started our adventure in learning how to groom Poodles and show in conformation. While we loved our new puppy, the longing for a Portuguese Water Dog persisted and we decided to purchase one from a Canadian breeder. To avoid quarantine, our PWD puppy, Sofi, was raised by family members until she was old enough to come to Hawaii and avoid quarantine.
This was just the beginning of our adventure with these wonderful dogs. It was through much trial and error (and looking at countless photos) that we learned how to properly groom a PWD. Kendal was fortunate to have met a great Poodle mentor who has taught her most everything she knows about grooming a Poodle in show coat. The local training clubs have also been such a great place for education and inspiration for us as we continue to learn how to train our dogs in performance events. We are also proud members of the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America.
We choose to health test any dogs we use for breeding as we feel this is the best we can do to bring healthy puppies into the world. Our dogs are inside house pets first and foremost and any litter of puppies will be treated the same way. They are VERY well socialized to children, other dogs, car rides, water and much more. We do not have numerous litters a year and are always looking for our next show/performance puppy to carry on our line. We choose our stud dogs carefully and plan for litters far in advance of breeding. We hope our dedication and love for our breeds is evident when sharing our passion with other dog lovers and newbies that come along.
We hope you enjoy our site and please don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to know more about our breeds of choice. We urge anyone interested in obtaining any puppy to do your research and learn about the breed and what to look for in a breeder. Mahalo for spending a little time on the Boardwalk!
